I have had a number of early model Valiants in my time however an "S" had long since eluded me. On my 40th birthday (I'm now 48) my wife bought me an old 3 speed green "S" which I have been driving to death ever since. In March 2005 I bit the bullet and began the hunt in earnest for a panelbeater to undertake the bodywork and re-spray that was so urgently needed, however little was I to know of the experience that was to ensue - 4 months in the panel shop half stripped, a change in proprietor ownership that saw my deposit of $4000 locked into dispute....a further 2 months renegotiating a final price, all culminating in a hefty time frame of 11months until my car was ready for pickup.....by tow truck! Anyway here is the finished product. The car has been resprayed in "Empress Black" with the trim finished in "Transport Red". I love the red and black together which satisfies a yearning I have long had for this type of Valiant. I still need to get the bumpers re-chromed and some other minor chroming done however at the moment I am just enjoying having her back on the road. I've certainly learnt a lot from the experience....... like make sure you have a secret bank account that your wife doesn't know about. But heck, I narrowly escaped the divorce and I've now got some unbelievable war stories to tell over a few beers. I'll drink to that!!
